Manila Fair Highlights Islam Embracing Diversity
On its second year, the members of the Young Moro Professionals Network shall hold the International Ramadhan Fair on 12-13 October 2007 at the Clamshell 2, Intramuros, Manila. “This is to put significance to the Eidl Fitr or Feast of Celebration for Muslims at the end of the holy month of Ramadhan which was made National Holiday by President Arroyo”.
“Few people understand what the holiday is all about. So, we wanted non-Muslims to share in the event and discover for themselves the beauty of Islam, said Ara Belleng, Project Manager.
“We came out with this theme because we wanted to prove that people of different faith and traditions can co-exist harmoniously. That in fact, on the ground, we are able to accept each other and even work together to maintain peace. Unlike the ugly things that we hear in the news, there really exist no conflict between real peoples. We commend the people who work with us, We each exert extra effort to reach out. The real enemy is our ignorance of each other” said Ms. Belleng.
Among the highlights of the Fair is an inter-faith program presentation of different peace efforts which are not commonly shown on television or newspapers. “Our Christian, Lumad, and friends from other faith denominations are very excited to take part in this Fair.” A Forum is also set to discuss Islam’s perspective on diversity and contemporary issues.
