Marami na naman ang gustong sumabay sa fasting(sawm in Arabic). Hala ito ang ilan sa mga karaniwang hindi alam ng iba sa atin:
- From 4:30 am hanggang 6pm araw-araw, hindi pwedeng kumain or uminom ng tubig. (opo, kahit candy) May specific time schedules. Kaya maaga kaming dapat gumising (330 to around 4am ) para kumain at mag-load ng maraming fluids in preparation for the day fast. Mahalaga na bigkasin ang intensyon to fast for Allah - Master of the Universe syempre.
- Hindi lang pag-fasting ang goal. Purification of mind and body. Which makes me imagine how Wise Allah really is. Imagine, mega bowel cleaning talaga. Sa dinami-dami ba naman ng nakain mong carcinogens at toxins sa loob ng isang taon, may pagkakataon kang mag-recondition ng bowels. Haha! Bawal ang extreme emotions lalo na weeping and getting angry, even a moment of entertaining evil thoughts. principle of Disiplina. Whew.
- Excused po ang mga may regla, buntis, may sakit, matatanda, mga nagbibiyahe ng malalayo although most of Muslims still manage to fast even while traveling kasi ang laking alwan na ngayon ng travel unless may expedition ka sa Mt Everest. Hehe!
- For couples, no sexual contact during fasting hours.
- Reading and reciting often of the Quran a must lalo na during this Holy Month.
- Ang holiday sa Pilipinas ay yung Eid'l Fitr or last day of Ramadhan (which will be on October 10 or 11, 2007) inshaAllah (God willing).
- Opo, umaabot ng isang buwan ang fasting or month of Ramadhan.
Para sa mga karagdagang tanong lalo na about basics on Islam, feel free to email or ask your Muslim kapatids. Obligasyon naming magpaliwanag sa inyo.
The net also has a lot of info to give but be sure the websites are authentic by asking your Muslim neighborhood. You can observe Taraweeh prayers at night in nearby mosques and learn more about Islam and the Quran. Is Jesus God or Prophet? How did Abraham and Ishmael work in the building of the Kaaba in Bacca or Makkah, Saudi Arabia? What does 'Oneness of God' mean in Islam? Why does Virgin Mary have her own chapter in the Quran? Do Muslims believe in the Day of Resurrection and Life in the Hereafter? Who is the Master of the Universe----before and will always be? Who was the 'comforter' Jesus mentioned in the Bible to come after him? Why is Islam the fastest growing religion?
